SUMMARY:Webinar: Ethical Issues and the Interpreter Role – Responding to Ethical Challenges (May 1, 2025)
DESCRIPTION:Overview:\nAfter a quick reminder of the main principles contained in the AUSIT Code of Ethics, the Webinar focuses on two aspects of interpreting where interpreters can stumble:\n\nEnsuring Completeness of interpreting from both parties, so that each party receives full messages as delivered by the other party. Interpreters can sometimes not live up to this for various reasons – fearing loss of face, unwillingness to deliver bad news, uncertainly of their role, or other reasons.\nCompleteness in interpreting is one aspect of Accuracy: you ensure accuracy by understanding the purpose of interviews and the ways in which questions and answers from both parties need to be reflected fully in your interpreting. Examples from health, legal and educational interpreting will be given. Issues of briefing and preparation for assignments will be addressed\n\nBoth completeness in interpreting and ensuring accuracy link with the other main ethical principle of interpreters, that of Impartiality. You are hired to interpret for the parties so that they can communicate directly and fully with each other – each party’s message must be relayed faithfully, and each party has the same standing from the point of view of the interpreter; it is up to the parties to resolve the issues they both face, mediated through skillful and accurate interpreting. This raises a number of ethical issues which will be addressed.\nRegister Now ( #mec_booking57527 )\n\nDetails:\nDate/Time: Thursday, 1 May 2025 / 5:00pm-6:00pm\nLocation: Online via Zoom\n \nRegistration Fee:\n\n$25 General Admission\nA 20% discount applies to this course for NEXPD Members ( https://nexpd.com/welcome-to-nexpd-memberships/ ).\n\nWho would this be useful for?
