Child Safety Training for Interpreters

This course is designed to equip interpreters with the knowledge and skills required to support the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in educational settings. Aligned with Victoria’s Child Safe Standards, the training provides essential guidance on identifying and managing child safety risks, understanding signs of abuse, and adhering to the Department of Education’s policies and procedures.

Throughout the course, participants will explore key topics such as their responsibilities in creating culturally safe and inclusive environments, responding to disclosures and suspicions of abuse, and following child safety protocols.

The training emphasises the vital role interpreters play in protecting children and fostering a culture of safety within schools, kindergartens, and community services. By completing this course, interpreters will be prepared to identify potential risks, support diverse needs, and act in accordance with legal and organisational child safety requirements.

This course is mandatory for all interpreters working in child-connected settings and is a critical step towards creating safe, supportive, and empowering environments for children and young people.
