Become a NAATI Certified Specialist Health Interpreter

NAATI Certified Specialist Health Interpreters (CSHIs) are the highest level of NAATI certified interpreters working in the health domain. They are highly skilled and experienced interpreters who have demonstrated their expertise in interpreting complex medical concepts and terminology. CSHIs are also familiar with the Australian healthcare system and the role of an interpreter in healthcare settings.

CSHIs play an important role in ensuring that people from all backgrounds have access to quality healthcare. They work in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and medical research facilities. They may also be called upon to interpret in emergency situations, such as car accidents and natural disasters.

To become a NAATI Certified Specialist Health Interpreter, candidates must first complete the NAATI Certified Interpreter test in their chosen language. Once they have passed this test, they must then pass the NAATI Certified Specialist Health Interpreter Knowledge Test and the NAATI Certified Specialist Health Interpreter Interpreting Test.

The NAATI Certified Specialist Health Interpreter Knowledge Test assesses candidates’ knowledge of a wide range of medical topics, including anatomy, physiology, and diseases. The NAATI Certified Specialist Health Interpreter Interpreting Test assesses candidates’ ability to interpret in a variety of healthcare settings, such as doctor’s appointments, medical procedures, and patient education sessions.

NAATI Certified Specialist Health Interpreters must also comply with a strict code of ethics and professional standards. They are required to maintain their skills and knowledge through continuous professional development.
