The webinar Introduction to Medical Terminology of the Cardiovascular System provides an in-depth look at the terminology used in the cardiovascular system. • General rules for word formation, including prefixes, suffixes, and root words
• The anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system, including the heart, blood vessels, and electrical conduction system
• Key medical terminology related to common cardiovascular disorders and conditions
• Signs, symptoms, and diagnostics associated with cardiovascular diseases
• Overview of medical investigations, procedures, and medications used in cardiovascular treatment

This course is designed for all non-clinical staff working in healthcare settings such as interpreters & translators, medical receptionists, administrative assistants and anyone else working behind the scenes, in a non-clinical role, assisting medical staff.

After completing the ‘Introduction to Medical Terminology of the Cardiovascular System’ Webinar you will be able to:

• Understand the historical development of medical terminology and recognise its Latin and Greek origins
• Identify and apply general rules for forming medical terms, including the use of prefixes, root words, and suffixes
• Understand and accurately interpret cardiovascular medical terminology, including terms related to anatomy, physiology, and common disorders

• Apply their knowledge of cardiovascular terminology in medical interpreting and translation settings.

Webinar Facilitator:

Professor Ineke Crezee is New Zealand’s first Professor of Translation and Interpreting and has been a leader in the field since 1991. With extensive experience as a health and legal interpreter and translator in both the Netherlands and New Zealand, she is renowned for her expertise. Her influential book, Introduction to Healthcare for Interpreters and Translators, first published in 2013, has been translated into several languages, including Spanish, Chinese, and Turkish.

Ineke’s impressive career spans the translation of novels, medical and legal documents, and textbooks. She is the co-editor of two international journals and has contributed significantly to the translation of nursing and social work literature. Recognised for her exceptional teaching, she was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit. She also serves as the Fulbright Campus Advisor at Auckland University of Technology.
