Interactional Management Workshop (August 12, 2024)
This workshop suits practitioners and students preparing for the NAATI Certified Provisional Interpreter or Certified Interpreter tests and seeking to improve their interactional management skills for the consecutive dialogue tasks.
Overview:
Interpreting in community settings is rarely limited to conveying a straightforward exchange of information. In addition to relaying messages, interpreters are often required to co-ordinate people’s talk or to “manage discourse” (Cecilia Wadensjö, 1998 & 2002).
This workshop aims to provide interpreters with knowledge, skills and strategies for how to best manage the flow of the communication when required. Learners will apply interaction management strategies in simulated scenarios. They will also have an opportunity to share experiences and ask questions about managing interaction in complex settings.
