With the implementation of NAATI’s Certification System, Candidates are now being marked for their performance on interactional management. So, why do we suddenly need to look at interactional management? What does this mean for practising interpreters? Why do interpreters need to work on interactional management skills? And more importantly, to what extent can interactions be managed ethically? This course aims at helping practising and aspiring interpreters understand the importance of and strategies for managing interactions during an interpreting assignment.


Who would this be useful for?

This module would be useful for Interpreters who wish to improve their interactional management skills, and/or wish to sit a NAATI Exam for Certified Interpreter, Certified Specialised Legal Interpreter, and/or Certified Specialised Medical Interpreter


This course will cover the following items:

Why interactional management is important for interpreters

To what extent can interpreters manage interactions

Strategies available for interpreters to manage interactions

When to switch back to a more invisible role

 A professional development certificate will be issued upon completion of the course. Learners will be eligible to receive points towards recertification (Section 1.4 of NAATI Recertification PD Catalogue). Some courses may attract PD points from multiple categories. Students are required to read and complete all the course content, including watching all videos, and successfully completing all assessments.
