The Role of the National Professional Association in the Australian T&I Landscape

Play Video

Professional associations play a vital role at the time of providing cohesion and belonging to their membership. Translation & Interpreting (T&I) is a profession which mainly consists of freelancers and contractors who have very little opportunities to share professional experiences and concerns in a common space.

The presentation will introduce the Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators (AUSIT), the National professional association for translators & interpreters in Australia. AUSIT stands for ethical, competent and informed practice by promoting the AUSIT code of ethics, organising quality professional development, endorsing research and supporting adequate remuneration and working conditions.

AUSIT is also a member of FIT, the International Federation of Translators which provides access to a broad international network of T&I professional associations.

In the presentation Erika will talk about the structure, aims and goals of the organisation, but will also highlight the important work it is doing for the advancement of the T&I profession in Australia.
